Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP)

NNT Change Tracker’s continuous, non-stop vulnerability management and compliance controls make it an ideal solution to address FedRAMP requirements for continuous monitoring*

(*see NIST SP 800-137 Information Security Continuous Monitoring for Federal Information Systems and Organizations)

Any designated Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) will need to operate continuous monitoring and in order to manage this effectively, tight change control is going to be essential.

NNT’s real-time, continuous approach to compliance, configuration-drift reporting and breach detection provides a cohesive means of demonstrating compliance with FedRAMP requirements. By using Closed-Loop Intelligent Change Control, all changes are assessed automatically and while any ‘known/good’ changes (such as scheduled patches) are logged, only unexpected, unsual - and therefore suspicious - activity is reported for review and remediation.

In this way, previously unattainable visibility of changes and governance of change control is delivered, and with reduced resource overheads.

FedRAMP Backgrounder

The Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) provides a standardized benchmark for secure cloud services. As the name suggests, this was originally derived for government departments and agencies but is seeing wider interest and adoption by cloud service providers beyond the Federal Government customer requirements.

In providing a single accreditation to FedRAMP, the cloud service provider and the adopting agencies have a proven, independently audited level of security that is trusted. FedRAMP is mandatory for Federal Agency cloud-delivered services.

Other sources of information, including the FedRAMP Concept of Operations (CONOPS) and Guide to Understanding FedRAMP, can be found at: http://www.fedramp.gov and now at http://cloud.cio.gov/fedramp

The security controls required for FedRAMP compliance are detailed in the FedRAMP System Security Plan (SSP) and drawn from NIST SP 800-53 Revision 4 within the context of a cloud service provider model.

In common with NIST 800-53, security controls include:

System and Information Integrity (SI) controls – system and configuration file integrity monitoring and intrusion detection are essential

Risk Assessment (RA) controls – Vulnerability Scanning to be regularly operated

Identification and Authentication (IA) controls - Hardened build standard to be derived and adhered to
