The Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport have announced the launch of CyberInvest, a plan that will fund cybersecurity research and help protect the UK’s cybersphere.
This announcement comes after much encouragement to boost the UK’s investment in cyber security and to foster better connections between the industry, government, and academia.
CyberInvest will be a community forum delving into the latest cyber security research and leading expertise from GCHQ and academics within the cyber industry.
Director of GCHQ, Robert Hannigan stated during the IA15, “CyberInvest is about bringing together academia, industry, and government to address the critical shortage of high-end cyber research in a more focused way.”
The GCHQ made a statement today revealing it has identified nearly 200 significant attacks a month on the UK, doubling that of 2014’s attacks at roughly 100 per month; that’s roughly 7 major attacks a day.
As weak cyber security is currently troubling the UK, it’s important to note that with market leading solutions like File Integrity Monitoring, Change & Configuration Management, Breach Detection, and System Hardening, you can better protect your IT estate from persistent and malicious threats. You may not always be able to stop the breach, but with these solutions in place, you’ll be able to detect the breach before any serious damage is done.
